The Women in IT Application aka: ‘Points Portal’ is a student
incentive program designed to engage and encourage MCC female students to persist in their chosen I.T. major. The rationale is that if female students are provided with incentives and support in a male dominated educational career path, they will be more likely to persist. The purpose of this application is to provide a platform for female students to log or register actions related to their academics or personal progress. For example, a student may log if they visited a tutor, or if they completed a FAFSA application. The application interface for students has a selection of buttons (action items) that students can select, make a comment, and press submit. On the other end, the Admin (MCC staff member) are able to view a log of each student’s list of actions completed, and notes. Each of these actions are assigned a pre-configured point value, that automatically tallies point totals for both both the MCC Staff Admin and enrolled MCC Student to view.
This programs runs every quarter and students who accumulate the most points become eligible for MCC Scholarships and/or other incentives. The application can be accessed at www.mccwinit.com.
